What can I expect?
The story begins in 1815, where Jean Valjean is released after nineteen years of prison. Valjean tries to become a better man, but the ruthless policeman Javert still wants to hold Valjean responsible for his actions in the past. After breaking his parole, this turns into Valjean being hunted for decades by Javert. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine's young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.
Les Misérables is written by Victor Hugo, who is also the author of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Les Misérables was first published in 1862, and it's a tale of broken dreams, unrequited love, hope, sacrifice, justice and morals – a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit.
This musical is produced by Cameron Mackintosh and his legendary production of Boublil and Schönberg's Les Misérables is a worldwide hit. Claude-Michel Schönberg is the book co-writer and the composer of both Les Misérables and Miss Saigon, all in collaboration with Alain Boublil.
Les Misérables has been seen by more than 70 million people in 43 countries and in 22 languages around the world, and it is still incredibly popular! It features the songs 'I Dreamed A Dream', 'On My Own', 'One Day More' and 'Do You Hear The People Sing?' - and it is indeed a great musical!
